A student-led initiative promoting entrepreneurship through a market-styled event held on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University .

What started as a concept became a fleshed-out passion project.

Throughout my college experience, I’ve wanted to host an on-campus event promoting entrepreneurship amongst students. That desire manifested itself as the first-ever Hillcrest Market. This project took three weeks to design and execute and had a turn out of over 150 students. The concept was simple. Reach out to students around campus running small businesses and give them the space to promote their goods and services. The vendor space was free to those who wished to participate, and all profit made from the event went straight to them. I wanted to foster an environment that promoted creativity and business thinking regardless of major, and this was the perfect place to do that.

With the help of my friends and volunteers, we were able to spread the word through social media posts and word of mouth!

the task

To create an event that promotes entrepreneurship and community amongst students. The plan is to turn this into an annual on-campus event for students.
the concept

A market where students can sell their goods and services in a safe and creative environment. The themes will vary from year to year; however, the event host is encouraged to think outside of the box.
the goal

A fun and eclectic event where students are encouraged to participate. The event will operate through a club on campus or Student Association. Eventually, Hillcrest Market will expand to the Johnson County community.

the theme

The theme for 2021 was "Up in the Trees," which reflected my personal artistic style. This was presented through abstract shapes, balloons, and houseplants.

promotional materials

One of the most significant contributors to the success of this event was promotion. I posted materials on email as well as encouraged students to post on their Instagram pages.
